通過張民冠醫生的多年經驗,他表示 “ 坐骨神經痛“ 並非中年人或長者的 “專利”, 日常工作需提重物或用力,背部曾受傷,坐立或走路姿勢不良,甚至受遺傳影響,也會加速椎間盤退化,令坐骨神經痛提早到訪。“患者的痛楚會由腰骨,臀部,一直延伸至小腿一下內外側,甚至腳底,程度會按神經線受壓範圍的大小而有差異,由隱隱作痛以至如刀刺或火燒般痛,個別患者或會出現小腿以下部位發麻,腳趾或腳底乏力等癥狀,亦有些會在打噴嚏或用力時腰骨至小腿產生觸電感覺。但若痛楚範圍只及臀部或大腿,便只算是反射痛而非坐骨神經痛。”

不論是何種痛癥,要準確判斷還需由醫生代勞。“我們首先會進行臨床提腿檢查。患者需平臥床上,伸直雙腿,然後由醫生將一邊退慢慢提高,正常可提至90度,如中途病人因痛楚而令腿部無法再被擡高,便很可能患有坐骨神經痛。進一步便要以X光檢查,以確認痛楚的根源是來自椎間盤退化,骨刺,腰椎移位,還是腫瘤。經X光檢查後,一般會先建議病人休息,停止體力勞動,服藥或接受六星期物理治療,效果不佳的話,則會以磁力共振作深層檢查,看看有否動手術的必要。”
